Programs
“We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them” – A. Einstein
What we love
There is an increasing gap between child and Nature. Are standard school programs adapting to the increasingly important environmental issues? And if they do, will those programs create behavior change? Too often, schools try to inject knowledge without providing the experiences, which we believe are the most important source of true inspiration, love and protection for the environment.
Submerge has specific programs for kids and teen leaders that intends to create true awareness on water environmental problems and to promote discussion and solutions. Through real exploration, adventure, art, fantasy, photography and digital mapping tools we aim to inspire love towards Nature at early childhood and support committed teen leaders with advanced training.
What we understand
Underwater Image has inspired millions of people since the first movies of Jacques Cousteau. Those educational documentaries changed the way the world views the oceans and life on this planet, and encouraged millions of young people to study biology, oceanography, marine archaeology and scuba diving.
Submerge offers professional comprehensive underwater image training. Cross field curriculum designed, this hands on workshops includes marine science (conservation, ecology, and fisheries), environmental education (visits to successful creative local programs, volunteer on specific projects) and underwater image (learn photography and digital cinema focusing on an environmental problem).
What we are taught
Controversial environmental problems might bring impassioned resistance, emotional responses, and feelings of guilt or anger. When the subject confronts one’s personal lifestyle, political leanings or economic situation, then the topic is perceived in a very different light. For example, many of the Marine Protected Areas around the world failed its conservation and fisheries management goals because the lack of community involvement and support.
Focusing on non-linear environmental problems and discussing complex solutions, at Submerge we see problems as opportunities to develop both creative and critical thinking. Submerge has a flexible set of programs that can be adjusted to specific areas, individual needs and to any school curriculum. From snorkeling trips and Divemaster courses on coastal areas, to run-off protection and water pollution programs on urban schools.
