Mayan Riviera, Mexico - Submerge Living Sea Sculpture: Contemporary art as a coral refuge, a project by Collen Flaningan putting together science, art and education on coral reefs, will hopefully get the funding necessary to make it real. Submerge will provide some local expertise in the area and we will collaborate with the educational part of the project, bringing local students to participate in the project and learn on the importance of conservation, habitat restoration and coral reef sustainability. Location: 20° 37’ N. 87° 05’ W.

How to get there: There are many airlines arriving to Cancun International Airport. If you can’t find a direct flight, then get a ticket to Mexico City and the connection to Cancun. We can make the ticket reservation for you if need it.

Immigration: If you have a European or an American passport you don’t need to obtain a visa in advanced. At your arrival the airline will give you the Migratory Tourist Form, which is included in your ticket fee. There is no additional fee at the border. If you are of any other nationality, check here for the requirements of your tourist visa.

Arrival-departure: We will meet you at the airport to transport you the 40 minute ride to your hotel in Playa del Carmen. You need to arrive at least one day in advance of the course start date. Transportation from Playa to the Airport is included.

Important safety rule: Departure should be at least 24 hours after your last dive to reduce the risk of decompression sickness.

What to bring: Makes sure to bring your completed student forms and your dive certification.Bring your notebook if you want to work on color correction and editing after class. Hot weather clothes, sunglasses, swim suit and flip flops will be your uniform for the week. If you forget anything, most toiletries and other items can be purchased in the area.

Riviera Maya Guide: Before or after your workshop you may want to discover some of the other astonishing natural beauty that this region has to offer. Here is just a brief list: Siam Kan Biosphere Reserve, Tulum Mayan ruins, Pac Chen Mayan village, Bacalar Lagoon, Jungle with Bird Sanctuaries, monkeys, crocodiles, manatees, etc. Our large experience and contacts in the area are at your disposal, although we are not in the tourism business and do not sell non-dive related excursions or endorse any particular tour company.

All hotels are located close to the sea and to the lovely Downtown of Playa Del Carmen. know that there are of course many other options available.
